As you know I'm from West Virginia and we have a boatload of ghosts in this state. One actually happened to me.
It was late September and I was working at a local five and ten in old downtown Charleston. I was 22 at the time and the only guy who worked there, so I was put in the stock area andour building was many things before it was a store. The upstairs was our back-stock room and it was creepy. Anyway, all of us were working late 'cause we were expecting our Halloween shipment along with our other merchandise. I was new and the other employees would tell me about the disturbances. I am very in tune to the spirit realm and I guess they were trying to scare me but I wasn't. My father dided when I was fifteen and I've seen him and smelt him a few times since then, So Iam not scared ghosts. Any hoo, where was I? Oh yeah now I remember, so thee we were all in the back room and we talking waiting on the now late truck when we heard something walking around upstairs. Being the only guy there, I was elected to go investigate. With flashlight in tow, I started up the stairs when my co-worker Bobbi yelled " Look out for the ghost!" "Funny, very funny" Isaid as left their sight. When I reached the top, I shined the light to where the sound came from and sighed in releif when I saw a cat run "I'ts a cat!" I yelled and headed back down stairs when it got real cold and I smelled a woman's perfume. I moved a little faster and got down stairs to find them unloading the things off the truck. "Oh, there you are!" Wendy, our manager said as she handed me a box of costumes for back stock. "Here, take these upstairs and put them away." So, I headed back up the stairs and walked over to the stock area and put the box down. I had an eerie felling like I was being watched, so I left quickly. Only this time, when I reached the stairs, The cold chill was different and the perfume was stronger in scent and I heard a female voice say "Hey you." I turned to see a woman standing in the door way! She was beautiful. Dressed in a forties style clothes; grey dress with little black checkers and she had red hair with a her throat slit ear to ear, she was a ghost! I ran down the stairs and headed out the door shouting by, I quit as I left.( okay, maybe I was a little scared.) A few weeks later, I ran into Wendy at our transit mall and she said she went through two other stock guys since me because they had seen her too. She said none of the girls had seen herthough and it sparked my curiosity; why was only appearing to men? I went to the library and looked up that part of town in the archives. Turns out that part of town was a red light district in the mid thirties and all through the fourties. The building I worked in was a doctor's office on the second floor, and I was shocked when I saw a headline attached to the information it read: LOCAL DOCTOR SUSPECTED IN PROSTITUTE'S MURDER. I was even more shocked when her picture came up with "Jane Doe" under it. Then it clicked, she appeared to men because she was still working.
